Managing a growing PC gaming collection often leads to a cluttered interface filled with titles you no longer play. Whether you want to declutter your list or permanently detach a title from your account, understanding the available options is essential for a clean digital workspace. Learning how to properly remove games ensures your library remains organized while protecting titles you wish to keep for later.
Understanding the Difference Between Hiding and Removing
Hiding a title simply removes its entry from your primary library view while leaving account ownership completely intact. This reversible option is ideal for games you might return to after clearing your immediate backlog.
Permanent removal completely detaches the license from your account, requiring a repurchasing process if you change your mind later. Choosing the right method depends on whether you desire a quick aesthetic cleanup or a total deletion of game access.
Hiding Titles for a Cleaner Library View
To hide a game, locate it in your collection list and right-click on its title to open the options menu. Hover over the Manage category and select Hide this game from the dropdown choices.
The title will immediately vanish from your main view without affecting your save data or achievements. You can access hidden titles anytime by selecting the View menu at the top of the client and clicking Hidden Games.
Permanently Deleting Games via Steam Support
If you want to permanently delete a title, click the Help tab at the top left of the client and select Steam Support. Search for the game you wish to purge in the product search box or pick it from your recent products list.
Select the option titled I want to permanently remove this game from my account from the list of support topics. The client will show a confirmation screen listing the associated DLC and items that will be deleted along with the base game.
Finalizing the Removal Process
Review the list carefully to verify you are removing the correct software license from your profile. Click the final confirmation button to permanently erase the title from your account records.
Once completed, the game will no longer appear in your library or transaction history as an active license. Restarting your client can help refresh the account data and ensure your interface reflects the changes immediately.
